The Success of Our Laboratory
The past year has been a remarkable one for the Tummers Simon Dryers Technology laboratory. What started as a strategic investment in innovation has quickly grown into a central pillar of our development, research, and collaboration efforts.
Throughout the year, our laboratory has been buzzing with activity. We’ve carried out an extensive number of tests using all available dryer configurations, including the Tubular Dryer, Single Drum Dryer, and Double Drum Dryer. By working with different machine setups and process parameters, we’ve deepened our understanding of how a wide range of products behave during drying and cooling.
From food to non-food
Exploring new possibilities
Our lab has welcomed an impressive variety of food and non-food products, allowing us to test new formulations, validate existing processes, and explore entirely new applications.
We didn’t just test, we documented, analysed, and learned. This included a professional photo and video shoot in the laboratory, capturing our equipment, people, and processes in action.
At the same time, we intentionally focused on products and markets where we see strong future growth potential. One standout example is seaweed and algae which is widely recognised as products of the future due to their versatility, sustainability, and wide application range across food, feed, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and materials.

A product of tomorrow
Algae and seaweed have been a key learning area for us this year. These marine resources offer enormous potential, but they also come with unique challenges when it comes to drying, handling, and preserving valuable components.
To deepen our understanding, we not only tested these products in our laboratory, but we also participated for the first time in the North Sea Seaweed event. There, we connected with innovators, producers, and researchers, gaining valuable insights into the market, its challenges, and its future direction. It was an inspiring experience, one that confirmed our belief that algae and seaweed will play an increasingly important role in sustainable processing.
A laboratory at the heart of innovation
Looking back, it’s clear that the laboratory has been at the heart of our innovation efforts this year. It has become a place where ideas are tested, data is created, and future solutions are shaped.
Looking ahead to the coming year, we expect the laboratory to be used even more intensively. With growing demand for testing, development, and proof-of-process, we see enormous potential to expand our knowledge and support even more industries and applications.
